Top Beauty Trends of 2011
Here’s a recap of the biggest beauty trends in 2011. It seems like some of these looks might stay around a bit longer, while other trends have already fizzled out. Which beauty trend in 2011 was your favorite?
Feather Extensions– One of the most memorable hair trends in 2011 was the feathery hair extensions. It seems like everyone had one. The salons then turned to fly-fishing shops, which sell rooster feathers are tackles, in order to keep up with demand. There are many different ways to wear this popular hair trend. If you want a subtle look, wear a skinny feather that will blends in with your hair. If you want to go bold, choose a wider feather in a bright color.
Pink Hair – One of the most surprising beauty trends of the year was a very unnatural hair color. Pink hair was everywhere in 2011! It wasn’t so shocking when kooky pop-stars Katy Peery and Niki Minaj started the look, but when actresses like Kate Bosworth and Glee star Dianna Agron followed in their footsteps, it became more of a widely accepted beauty trend. Choosing a pink hair color adds a playful vibe to your style. Try dip dying the ends of your hair to add flashes of color that aren’t so high-maintenance.
Ombre – Lots of celebrities were rocking the ombre look last year. Ombre is the French-termed hair trend that features darker, natural hues at the roots with gradually-dyed lightening at the ends. But you don’t actually let your roots grow out. First, the whole head of hair is colored dark, then a stylist paints highlights into the lower part of the hair to make it look like it grew out that way. Some people have criticized the look, saying it looks lazy, but the ombre trend clearly caught anyways.
Cat-Eye Revival — The cat-eye look is a vintage makeup trend that made a huge revival in 2011. It enhances the eyes, making the eyelashes appear thicker and longer. To achieve the cat-eye look, use eyeliner to make a thin line from your inner corner of the eye and gradually increase the thickness as you move towards the outer corner. When you reach the outer corner of the eye, move the liner slightly in an upward direction.
